Miss Mauritius 2011 not qualified for Miss World 2012

From The Independent Daily, Mauritius

During a press meet held on Thursday, the Miss Mauritius National Organisation announced that Ameeksha Dilchand, 24, Miss Mauritius 2011, will only represent the country at Miss Universe 2012, which will be held in Panama.

Shalini Panchoo, 22, previously the first runner-up at Miss Mauritius 2011, will represent the country at the Miss World 2012 replacing Ameeksha, who could not meet the age limit criteria. After this change, the first runner-up now is Ingrid Pudaruth, 21, and the second runner-up is Laura Yow Sang, 19.

The press meet was held at Imperial China restaurant. Speaking to the Independent, national deputy director of the organisation, Vanessa Obeegadoo said, “When we checked, we got to know that Ameeksha is not qualified to represent the country at Miss World because of her age. The age limit is below 25 years and Ameeksha will be turning 25 years this October. So, we chose Shalini to represent the country, since she will be turning 23 this year. Shalini is beautiful and intelligent. She recently completed her Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Mauritius and is now pursuing her Masters. So, I think it’s perfect.” Shalini said, “I am very pleased to represent the country at the international level. The hard work starts now.”

Ameeksha has also been generous enough to give away her International Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT), Delhi, scholarship to another contestant, Sophia Bordelais. She passed the scholarship because she knows that she has responsibilities now. She is pursuing her LLB degree and is required to travel.
